Omega 3

Using Omega 3 for skin health has brought about a considerable change in the lives of many people. According to the Journal for Lipid Research, Omega 3 fatty acids help in preventing wrinkles and delay the skin aging process. Studies also show that omega 3 fats especially EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) can protect the skin from the harmful UV rays and skin cancer. We all are well aware that Fish oils are the richest dietary source of omega 3 fatty acids. They are helpful in preventing cardiovascular disorders, improve joint functions, treat mental disorders and increase the immunity levels in our body.

I have been recommending Omega supplement for years for their role in treating skin problems. Our skin is affected negatively due to environmental changes, hormonal changes, our eating habits and living style. All these factors can lead to various skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, excessive dryness, itchy skin, acne, other allergies and of course dark under-eye circles and puffiness. These problems can lower the self-confidence level of an individual and cause discomfort.

Omega 3 fatty acids play a crucial role in promoting skin health. Both DHA and EPA, the two most important omega 3 fats help regulate cellular functions, maintain elasticity of the skin and protect it from the harmful radiations of the sun.  It is a little know fact that the effects of the sun can dramatically increase the look and severity of dark circles. Western diets significantly lack in omega 3 fatty acids. This is the reason why incidence of cardiovascular diseases, joint problems and skin problems are the highest in western countries.

Some of the common symptoms of omega 3 deficiency are excessively dry and itchy skin, dark under-eye circles, white spots, eczema, dandruff and slow wound healing. All these and other severe skin problems can be dealt with effectively by the regular use of Fish oils and topical serum’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants. EPA and DHA fats are known to reduce inflammation throughout the body by producing prostaglandins. These are hormone-like substances that help in muscle contractions, hormone regulation, controlling blood pressure and reducing inflammation. Fish oils inhibit the secretion of androgen hormones. Androgens are responsible for sebum production in the hair follicles. Excess of sebum can lead to acne, pimples, skin discolouration dark circles and fine lines and under-eye puffiness.

Allergies are the number one cause of dark circles worldwide.  Omega 3 has been proven to be an essential part of allergy treatments to dust, pollens and air pollution. People suffering from inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis have high Arachidonic acid levels in their blood. EPA fats inhibit the production of this acid and help in controlling inflammatory skin responses. Eating an omega 3 rich diet such as fatty fishes, green leafy vegetables, walnuts, fresh fruits etc can help in maintaining a healthy skin.  For problem-free skin, try a pharmaceutical grade, molecular distilled fish oils.
